BLM and NPS sign MOU's with USFWS

After 9 years of sporadic meetings, discussions, iterations and versions, two Memorandums of Understanding under Executive Order 13186 were signed on Monday April 12th; one between the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service, and the other between FWS and the Bureau of Land Management.  EO 13186, Responsibilties of Federal Agencies to Protect Migratory Birds, was signed by President Clinton just before he left office in January of 2001.  This EO required federal agencies to develop MOUs with the FWS that would outline how they will further the conservation of birds in the process of conducting their mandated activities.  The MOUs were all supposed to be completed by 2004, but none was.  Recent activity has resulted in now 6 being signed, and a few more are close.  The FWS has signed MOUs with the departments of Energy and Defense, with the US Forest Service, Minerals Management Service, and now with NPS and BLM.  Congratulations to all the team members involved.  The MOU's can be downloaded from
